Every country needs protection, either to stop attacks against them or as a precautionary measure in case of such attacks. The military is this protector – an organisation that is authorised by the country to defend said country with use of weapons. The military is required to protect a country from any perceirved threat.
The military plays a large role in a modern world where many world wars and large conflicts have taken place. It is central to how the world is governed and operates. They are governed by very specific rules that they must adhere to otherwise they will not be justified to be called militaries – instead they might have another name such as civil militia.
Military history is long and complex, but also very rich and interesting. Civilisations since the dawn of man have had a military in some form or another. Ancient Egyptian society had soldiers who fought in wars and so did other civilisations such as China. The Roman Empire was well known for being a military power that helped it to rule most of Europe at its height.
